Wednesday Word-shop: Introduction to Vermiculture
February 21 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
This Wednesday Word-shop explores vermiculture–the practice of using worms to transform food waste into a nutrient-rich finished product called vermicompost. In a school setting, vermicomposting can set the stage for a variety of fun, interdisciplinary activities.
Vermiculture can utilize school cafeteria waste for the worm bin, provide a variety of interesting experiments while maintaining the bin in the classroom, and can culminate in a school or classroom garden using the finished product.
Be sure to bring a small, shoe box-sized, plastic container to create your own vermiculture bin to take back to your classroom. We will also provide a packet with 98 worm activities!
This Word-shop is a perfect introduction for anyone interested in adding projects around sustainability, composting, the life-cycle, and a variety of other topics. We also have a brand new Quarrybrook-based field class on this topic, and this is a great chance to learn more!
